May 24, 2017 3:30pm ‐ May 24, 2017 5:00pm

The purpose of this session is to provide a review and a practical guide regarding image exchange. There continues to be a need for efficient, safe and secure exchange of imaging exams to enhance the care of our patients. The session will highlight current efforts for internet based exchange and review efforts directed at increasing healthcare interoperability in the United States. Attendees will learn of solutions that go beyond CD exchange. Internet based solutions are emerging and vendors are implementing standards based applications. The RSNA Image Share Validation program and the IHE Conformity Assessment program are directed at providing customers with assurance that a vendors product complies with accepted standards. These standards will be reviewed and a path of evolution will be discussed indicating how these standards will accommodate new IT technologies.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the existing standards governing image exchange.
  2. Discuss the importance of observing standards.
  3. Identify how the standards are likely to evolve over the near future.
