Description

The purpose of this session will provide participants with an understanding of unconscious bias and the role it plays in the healthcare professions and other key areas. Participants will understand the science and research of unconscious bias, identify how unconscious bias can impact healthcare decisions and results, understand the filters through which one views and interprets oneself and others, and learn about promising practices to mitigate the effects of bias in order to improve individual and collective decision making abilities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe what unconscious bias is.
  2. Identify the role of unconscious bias in the decision making process and how it can impact health care.
  3. Discuss promising practices to mitigate the effects of unconscious bias.
