ACR2017VM22 - Economics Forum Part I

The purpose of this session is to focus on the efforts of the ACR Commission to ensure the economic viability of the field of radiology. The session will highlight three key payment arenas:

  1. Fee for service, using payment challenges to mammography as the example
  2. Valuation of services, using the RVS Update Committee (RUC) as the forum where the shift to value based care is especially evident
  3. Future payment models, with focus on MACRA and the implications for radiologists.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the new coding and payment structure for breast imaging services.
  • Understand how value based activities impact per unit valuation of radiology services.
  • Apply tools for success under future payment systems such as MACRA and the MIP.
