Description

The purpose of this session is to inform radiologists of new trends and opportunities in radiology resulting from several major health care initiatives. The course will discuss the goals of the federally funded programs and highlight the role imaging has played, or is expected to play, in each. The course will have broad application to all imaging sub-specialties and modalities. Initiatives to be discussed include, Precision Medicine Initiative, Initiatives of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, Brain Initiative and Medical Imaging Research Initiative.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify how the use of high-dose radiotherapy in hypofractionated radiotherapy regimens may affect patients.
  2. Describe scientific and policy considerations in developing new imaging modalities.
  3. Discuss how precision medicine, the brain initiative, and the medical imaging research initiative will influence the future of clinical practice.
