May 16, 2016 8:00am ‐ May 16, 2016 9:30am

The purpose of the session is to cover upcoming radiation oncology issues concerning the current fee-for-service payment system, the CPT/RUC process and the need for attendees to be engaged and involved in the RUC Survey process. The session will focus on how quality can be measured in radiation oncology--from the basic modifiers used currently to the Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and opportunities for making significant improvements in this area. Also discussed will be Alternate Payment Models in radiation oncology.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the role of the CPT RUC process, how this process affects reimbursement, and the importance of radiation oncologists participating in the RUC survey process
  2. Report on the various approaches for measuring quality in radiation oncology and how these approaches could be significantly improved
  3. Identify how to initiate new processes within a radiation oncology practice that will promote a successful transition from a fee-for-service payment model to alternative payment approaches
