ACR 2016 The Crossroads of Radiology

ACR2016VM10 - AIRP: Image Guided Breast Biopsy: Radiologic-Pathologic Correlation

May 16, 2016 8:00am ‐ May 16, 2016 9:30am

The purpose of this session is to discuss correlation of results of image guided breast biopsy with imaging findings to determine concordance, including management of high-risk lesions. The emphasis will be on clinical knowledge since radiologists play a key role in determining the adequacy and management of image guided breast biopsy results. Ensuring that the imaging findings are adequately explained is the first and most important step. While the management of atypia is not controversial, management of other high risk lesions obtained on core biopsy may have several options if close radiologic-pathologic correlation is performed. Developed in conjunction with the American Institute for Radologic Pathology ®

Learning Objectives:

  1. Cite incidence of need for repeat sampling following image guided breast biopsy.
  2. Identify cases where under sampling or mistargeting may have occurred during image guided breast biopsy.
  3. Describe advances in cardiac CT. Determine the high risk histologies obtained at image guided breast biopsy and discuss respective potential management strategies.
